I had a blast watching Flash Gordon tear up the screen! A fast-paced and funny movie. It ain't quite "Back to the Future" but was obviously made on a low budget with heart. I give it extra stars for some of the other reviews where they obviously haven't seen the movie. But I take away a star for too much cheesy green-screen. ("Raiders of the lost Ark" math)
Fmovies: I am not a sci-fi fan particularly. I am not an action fan. I am an old-timey movie fan however and Axcellerator delivers for me (and it did for my kids also). I am not movie-savvy enough to spot the flaws my kids saw. I just enjoyed a story well-told and in a brisk and enjoyable manner. I know this thing was made for less than one day of catering on a Tom Cruse movie (my kids again) but the young leads are fantastic and John James (of "Dynasty") has aged so well and seems to steal the air out of his scenes with a dry, perfect villian. A movie I can watch without all the shaky-cam and blood, Mr. Giancola is a Director I hope keeps returning to this story. Because I wanted to see more after the last frame.
At first as I watched I thought to myself... man this is cheesy. But after 30 minutes I realized that this is what they were going for. Low budget 80's or 90's theme sci-fi that, although the acting and visuals were low budget, the actual story was pretty cool.
reminded me a bit of back to the future...

Axcellerator fmovies. I found this movie by putting Plex on shuffle and I had no idea what I was watching for the majority of the movie which I think really enhanced my experience with it. It feels a lot like an old 80s/90s action sci-fi movie and that's what I thought it was at first, I was shocked when I saw that it was released this year. The dialogue is insane, the plot is ridiculous, and there are some scenes that are just awful. But I think that's the appeal, it's fun to watch regardless of how objectively good it is. The main hitman guy is an absurd character and he's probably the best one to watch on screen, he's just always doing weird stuff and I love it. I'm so glad this movie was presented to me the way it was and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves "so bad it's good" movies.
This movie has some decent acting. The special effects are pretty good and the plot is pretty enjoyable. For a netfix movie, it was worth watching.
They certainly don't make em' like this anymore. I was pleasantly surprised by the humor and lack of cynicism that brought me back to the films of the 80s I loved. Yes, they could have used more of a budget for special effects but to me that is part of "Axcellerator"s charm. The filmmakers were obviously try to do as much as they could with the bucks they had (but maybe a bit too much). The young leads have fantastic chemistry, Sam J. Jones basically steals every scene he is in, and John James is deliciously as dry as a Bond Villian. You can even hear the musical shout-outs to John Williams in the film's score. A movie that doesn't take itself seriously while being entertaining is a breath of fresh air these days!
