The Hating Game (2021)

This looks like your typical Hallmark X-mas romance movie.. straight to VHS. But while it's not a Hollywood movie, it is certainly better than anticipated.

I expected to find Austin as the stiff male lead that would drag down the charming presence of Lucy Hale.. but both leads make this film together! They work really well off of each other. Their lines and stabs are really enjoyable, and the "drama" is not heavy enough to be a bother.

Lucy, of course, stands out as the cherry on top of a cake. Her wardrobe is impeccable, and her personality on screen as delightful as Ana de Armas is generally. The movie would not work as well without her.

Good coloring, sets and locations. Fast pace, music choices and editing. Nice production.

I'm surprised to admit I found this quite fun! More importantly, it is structured beyond competently to let you know where everyone stands during the first 13 minutes. I was impressed and already in it by then. The Romance is a bit... slow and on the side, but ultimately is the foundation of the story. You know what you are in for, and that's exactly what you get. Wouldn't change a thing! Had a nice time, since I was in the mood for it.

Nice feel good romantic drama with office premises... The story is highly predictable, but the presentation make it more enjoyable. The small characteristics and some family moments makes this bit different.... R rated romantic drama which has no boring moments... Must watch.

Seriously, the writing, the acting, the staging, the formula were all horrible.

How many times have we seen the Hollywood formula starting with a top pop hit and a voice-over explaining everything instead of showing us it through writing and development?

I mean, no one talks like this. You can tell because everyone is allowed to finish a sentence before the next actor speaks. The cutesy repartee banter was nauseating. It's like watching a tennis match of writing. One cute line to another and then now and then the awkward pause. There are zero attempts to make anything remotely realistic anymore. It's Hollywood has one script they use over and over again, replacing only the actors.

The acting was amateur at best. Constant facial flourishes and melodramatic hammy performances.

Then the diversity cast fulfilled every checkbox.

It's been done a million times, and a million times better. The two people that "hate" each other and end up getting together. FACEPALM. Go watch Harry Met Sally or even Casablanca. It just felt too repetitive.

Of course, we need the "feel good" pop hit injected in every 15 min or so. Finally, they REALLY need to stop doing the text over the screen in lieu of showing their actual phone messages.

Lastly, it was poorly directed. Some of the camera compositions were amateur at best.

The Hating Game fmovies. This movie is exactly how a 15 yo girl thinks. Everything is peachy and can be fixed with a tiny bit of charm and everything is perfect.

There is the mandatory girl in bed dreaming of a guy scene. The mandatory wardrobe change into something sexy to show off scene. The obligatory little girl sticking up for herself and praising a male in order to put a stop to bullying scene. The completely natural first kiss scene.

I could go on. You get the point. The dialogue and entire plot of this movie is downright laughable. The writer and director combo have just a few titles under their belts and it's all silly girl halmark movies. They are just getting more experience at making bad movies by working with themselves.

This is a film adaptation of the romantic comedy book by the same title The Hating Game. The general plot is one about two executive assistants (Lucy and Josh) for the two co-directors of the merged organization of two fundamentally different publishing companies who now work together sharing the same small office...and who hate each other.

This film takes place right before Thanksgiving and going into the holiday season, allowing for Christmas decor without being in your face about the holidays. It also starts with Lucy, played by the actress Lucy Hale, giving us a little run down on why she hates Josh and some of the games they play with each other. A new promotional position is announced that both Lucy and Josh want...and it is game on.

Great banter...wonderful hate to love romance that has some pride and prejudice vibes to it. Wonderful chemistry between our two main characters.

This film made me realize how much I love the hate to love trope!

Sweet, funny, biting dialogue...I highly recommend and will watch it again!

The only scene I did wholeheartedly enjoy was the paintball scene, but that was because it was a little hard to keep track of who was who and what was happening...but it was brief and lead to some very sweet scenes between Lucy, Josh and Patrick (Josh's brother).

I loved Josh's nickname of shortcake for Lucy...and the green paint...just melt my heart. Loved it!

I think it will be score a 7-8 by female viewers.

Romantic movie .

No special messages or character study.

The office scenes lacked complexity for simpler gender warfare.
