As a professional white man of 42 who is married to a 42 yr old black woman for 14 years we were both excited and thrilled when this movie came out. The movie, Jungle Fever, was playing while we were dating and every remark always commented to that effect. We met in San Diego, California, where life is somewhat liberal but eventually moved back to the North-East where life is NOT that liberal. Never had a huge confrontation but got many second looks and stares over time. Race was never a huge worry with me while dating but when marriage came around I was worried if my side of the family would be open-minded enough. They proved to be awesome, especially my father who was more worried about her being of the same religion than her ethic background. As in the movie, I went through the same naive wanderings, especially the "black hair" thing, later wanting my wife-to-be to get extensions and offering to pay, not knowing how much that can cost I was shocked when she gave me the news! Neither of us are huge dancers so that was easy and our musical tastes are both diverse enough that we like mostly the same with my tastes leaning more towards the stereotypical black side (reggae, dance hall, blues, jazz, and some hip-hop). She was the only black person on a ski slope in the Pocono Mts of Penna back in 1991 but lately when we occasionally go skiing there's a good mix (same as on the golf course, thanks to Tiger). To sum my experience up it was love at first site, regardless what race and after all the small differences were worked out it was love forever, we had a great wedding with every tradition from both sides; African/Caribbean to Portuguese/Polish. We now live in Connecticut and have two wonderful, beautiful children who are in touch with both sides of their culture and enjoy friendships with both, black and white kids. So I guess I'm living proof of the old saying "Once you go black..."

Fmovies: I thought that this movie was great. I saw the sneak preview this Sunday. It was a wonderful movie, but moreso it was believable. It felt like me years ago when I met my husband who is white. I was like I'd be damned if I would go out with him...Yeah he is nice, but he's white and I couldn't possibly like him. Better yet what does he know about being with a sista. Simon Baker's character seen real too, really cared about Sanaa's character, Kenya and realized what he could and couldn't offer in terms of being in a relationship with Kenya. The friends that Kenya had in the movie were funny and real. It was a wonderful movie. I know that I said that already but I would really recommend it. It is not often when you see an interracial relationship movie with a Black/African American woman and a white man that has a moving realistic storyline. Guess Who with Zoe Saldana and Aston Kutcher sucked. It was not funny and unrealistic. So anyway go see the movie!!! I LOVED IT!!!

I saw the movie on Saturday night and will see it again on Thursday. This is a much needed topic.I date outside my race(Black American)and find that White males are usually more respectful and complimentary of my looks and talents than black males. It does seem that too many Black males care about superficial things such as skin tone and hair length. Those things don't seem to matter with non black guys, who from my experience believe pretty is pretty no matter what the color. It bothers me that Black women are the most unmarried women in the country;yet we close ourselves to dating outside our race.Black males do not share this sentiment and date anything they want to;so why shouldn't we? I think we downplay and don't truly realize our own beauty because of negative depictions of black women in music videos or television shows. Its sad because we are beautiful the way God made us whether its with short hair, dark skin, thick figures or a stick figure.

Something New fmovies. I was told in advance not to see this movie so I hesitated. However, I saw the picture anyway and was disappointed. This film did not get the press it deserved. If you are into romantic comedies with a twist this movie is for you. I loved this film. The casting was perfect. The acting was believable and the chemistry was intense. Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker does a beautiful job in this film. It was a real story that I could relate to and it was brought out with unique yet beautiful cinematography. This is a mature more sophisticated story on interracial dating than prior films put out there. If I was not laughing, I was smiling through out the entire film. One of the best romantic comedies I've seen in a long time. Bravo

I saw the trailer for this movie and was itching for it to come out. It was better than I initially thought that it would be. I think that it touched on a subject that seems to be taboo in today's society. I will admit that the character Kenya had major issues to deal with, and she did't give Simon a fair shake in the beginning. She did however portray how African American women relate to each other and how most of us feel about the taboo that is interracial dating. There were many times in the movie when I really felt sorry for the way she behaved towards this genuinely nice guy. I did like the way the relationship developed, it wasn't forced and it didn't seem fake. It dealt with a lot of issues from both sides. I must admit that I watched it more than once because I thought it was that good. it teaches you to be open to other options, don't limit yourself because you might miss out on something great.

I love this movie!!! What a great valentine story. My girlfriends and I laughed the whole movie through. It is a lovely, fun, serious and romantic movie all at the same time. I am totally in love with Simon Baker. He is hot. "Simon you can do my garden anytime, baby". I am glad to see that Hollywood has finally caught up to what is everyday life for the rest of us. Interracial dating is no longer a taboo nor is it 'sometinhg new.' Blacks and whites have been dating and getting married in America since the sixties. I'm just glad to see that Hollywood is big enough to show that black women are just as desirable as women of other races. Great job Sanaa and Simon. You two did a wonderful job making the relationship seem real. There was a natural on-screen chemistry between the two of you that made the movie believable and enjoyable. Sanaa is lovely in the film. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves in Hollywood. Peace...Bindu
