User Reviews
People watching this as a typical movie might be upset because the technique is still the original play style which I loved the change of watching sth different. Great acting with great history overlay and overall a nice movie. Would recommend.
Fmovies: Fascinating story... I don't cry often, but it made me. And also i did laugh too. I really don't get the people who gave bad score to this movie. You guys never saw a firefly before?
I kept watching waiting for the main character to grow up and do something with her life. Needless to say she never does. She is a sporadic, spoiled, disorganized mess of a person with no focus and no goals in life. I wish the movie had focused on the other characters or maybe the turmoil during that time. Her uncles for example were on opposite sides of the political fence, would have been a lot better if they were more than supporting roles. The entire story focuses on Gülseren who is just lost and out of order with no potential at all. She thinks everything is a joke or tries to make serious situations a joke with her poor idea of comedy. My guess is the writer wanted to present a person with mental health issues that were never identified nor treated.
Have You Ever Seen Fireflies? fmovies. The movie is based on the original text of a muchly appreciated theatre play staged in 1999, written by Yilmaz Erdogan, a succesfull name of cinema and theatre world in Turkey.
Despite basing on a text succeded in the past, the movie unfortunately fails articulating a cinematic langue by adapting the theatrical scenario. Hence, the audience faces to a theatre play on the screen trying but failing to be a movie.
There are and will be many negative reviews. This is mainly because the film is based on a play, which was very successful in its time (with different actors). However, the film neither intends to be better than the play nor to replace it. It is simply a play in its own right, which should be considered on its own merits and not compared to the original play. Therefore, I recommend everyone to watch the film and form their own opinion.
The actors, scenes, atmosphere are magnificently. But the movie itself and the content is realy empty. There is no story and the movie is very Boring. There is not a single 'comic' scene. I don't understand why this movie is categorized as a comedy.
A cliché movie of yilmaz erdogan with his, so to speak, comunist scenes. It is becoming very boring.
