Dasvi (2022)

Directed by debutant Tushar Jalota, Dasvi stars Abhishek Bachchan as Ganga Ram Chaudhary, the Chief Minister of fictional North-Indian state Harit Pradesh, who is jailed for misuse of power, fraud, and corruption. His imprisonment sets the stage and drama unfolds.

In his absence, he makes his docile, rustic wife Bimla Devi Chaudhary --played to the hoot by a fantastic Nimrat Kaur--the acting CM. Used to spending her time caring for cows, the household, and her husband, she quickly realises her love for power and all that comes with it. As Bimla discovers her taste for politics, Ganga finds himself in the jail's library. Looking to bunk inmate duties and egged on by Yami Gautam Dhar's no-nonsense righteous superintendent Jyoti Deswal, he unwittingly takes up the challenge to pass Class 10th Board Examinations.

The best thing about Dasvi is its cast. Abhishek Bachchan, the leader of the pack, is charming as the corrupt, cocksure CM forced into circumstances beyond his control. His Ganga is unlike anyone he's played before--a refreshing, much-needed change in his sagging filmography. He gets the milieu, the accent, the part just right. The film rests heavily on his shoulders. And he does not disappoint. Neither does Yami Gautam Dhar. Her policewoman is everything that Ganga is not and therefore, plays a crucial role in his coming of age. She delivers whatever she's given with palpable sincerity and earnestness.

However, it is Nimart Kaur who steals the show in this one. As the unapologetically power-hungry surrogate CM, she gives a whistle-worthy performance. She adds a layer and gives an edge to this otherwise simplistic scattershot of a film. Almost all my favorite scenes in Dasvi have her. Whether it be tending cows or taking the chief ministerial oath or manipulating her husband to ensure that she continues to be CM, or making his cabinet her own overnight, she is terrific. It's nothing short of tragic that we don't get to see an actor of her calibre on screen more often.

The supporting cast deserves a special mention too. All of Ganga's fellow inmates, who help him prepare for the exams, are a joy to watch. Whether it be Danish Husain's librarian 'Raebareli,' Arun Khuswaha's 'Ghanti,' or Manu Rishi Chadha's sycophant assistant cop, they add immensely to the film and make it richer.

Popular YouTuber Arun Kuswah, who rose to fame as Chote Miyan in TVF videos, gives you plenty of rib-tickling moments. The rest of the cast including Danish Hussain play their parts well. Abir Tejpal's camera work goes apt with the narrative of the film. A Sreekar Prasad keeps his editing tight which is why there's barely any dull moment in Dasvi.

Ganga Ram Chaudhary and Bimala Devi quip, "Thoda uchaa bolo" to each other when the political power lies in their respective hands. However, in Dasvi, Abhishek Bachchan and his team let their work do all the talking and pass with flying colours.

Story is about a Chief Minister who is sentenced to jail for a scam and during his tenure at prison he realises that person needs education more than a power as a man with an education is more powerful than a person sitting on a powerful chair with no education..

Maddock films always impresses me as they come with the subjects which we might have heard or observed but the way its executed is always inspiring..

Abhishek Bachchan playing as a Chief Minister who always knows when it comes to politics he is indomitable but when it comes to education he can be domitable.. He is such kind of a artist who shows thate he is not the usual stero type heroic image but he has his unique style & when scripts like Guru, Dasvi, Big Bull are being passed on him he just creates a strong vibe to the audience...

Nimart Kaur as his wife performed well as when she realised that from a housewife she has to be the CM, what notion she kept of being a leader is very well displayed.

Yami Gautam as a strict police officer also performed well.

A story somewhere reflecting the other side of the politics displayed in a comic way but at the same time giving reminder to the society "THE POWER OF EDUCATION"

Dasvi fmovies. I literally enjoyed watching this movie. That's it. I am so happy that all the cast have acted so well, Even the script is well written. Education is a tool to change.

Film gives a great message on education which is necessary at this age and time. Its very entertaining. All the actors are amazing especially Abhishek Bachchan is outstanding in this movie. Its great to see him back on screen.
