User Reviews
This film gave me anxiety! It will have you gasping at certain moments and even laughing at certain parts. The storyline is excellent as the film continuously had it's ups and downs that leaves the audience guessing as to what could happen next. I am also convinced the bad reviews on here are a bunch of bitter people who have never made a film in their lives. Respect the craft and support indie filmmakers.
Fmovies: And what a dinner party that was! You go to a dinner party as a guy thinking you'll make a good impression but more as the featured entree for a set of elite, cultured anthropophagist nudists. Of course they follow a ritual but it's not stereotypically to Satan, and you'd never guess who it's to which is related to who the hostess is, whose ultimate identity is very surprising but also unguessable. The only nagging downside to this was the casting of Alli Hart as the lead, "Haley". She comes off as a conversion from the porn industry, which is fine, but it shouldn't be so obvious, needs acting lessons.
Let me say this as clearly as I can: this movie is beautiful, terrifying, and reveals parallels to millennia-long classism. I can see notes of other stories, but that's where the writers excel. They've created stories within stories. As a horror fan, there's enough suspense, gore, and occult symbolism to satisfy. The setting is gorgeous, and the music evokes the proper emotions to set up the next scene. I want some of those costumes! Perfection! But the meat of it, for an indie film, is the cast. I've seen Doleac, Sage, Williams, Mayhall, and Montgomery in other films. I'm a fan. I was excited by Wilson's and Hart's characters. Really, this cast just works like pieces of a particularly intricate puzzle. I have to say this, without providing spoilers, if you think you know what's going on... you don't. You won't, until the last act. The epilogue is so far removed from what you think at the beginning, and that's a fun journey to take. I've already bought it on Amazon. I'll be watching again.
The Dinner Party fmovies. I just can't believe there are so many 9 and 10 star ratings? Terrible acting, awful plot, horific music. boring! First hour could be cut completely. Time in my life I can't get back!
This is the kind of horror that gets the blood pumping through my veins. This is horror that is dialogue and character driven up to a point until it finally gets a little crazy and the gore floods in.
Everything about this horror gem was well designed, from the tight script to the well done cinematography to the acting to the characterization. Without a good story and character buildup horror films bore me so kudos to these guys.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. This is one effective little movie. Happy to have watched it. Give it a look yourself.
An artfully crafted, contained horror film that fuses high society and shocking gore. Of particular note is the performance by Sawandi Wilson and the film's musical score. Rather than slum the depths of the horror genre, Doleac chooses to transcend with The Dinner Party instead. For those who prefer a touch of class with their scares.
