The lead actor, Rose Williams ( 8* for her) is excellent in the role she's given. It's not the meatiest role but she gives it her everything and wins the audience over. She's a treat to watch as a budding young actress and I hope to see more of her in better parts in the future. The movie takes place in London 1974 black outs due to labor disputes. In a darkened old hospital, truth about abusive staff comes to light.
Meh...
Fmovies: Underrated as so many Movies before . Brilliant acting, and very solid director. If i have seen this one in a theater it will be a restless one and a half hour of a scary as hell Movie. A good surprise this one.
I really wanted to like this movie, as it had 2 of my favourite female actors in it...but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get into it. I actually switched it off with about 35 minutes remaining.
It was just too slow and dull. I understand that it's based around power cuts, but when a film is so dark, for so long, it's hard to stay focused.
I can only describe it as long periods of absolutely NOTHING happening, followed by short periods of absolutely EVERYTHING happening...rinse and repeat!
I'm not saying it was a bad film, it just wasn't for me.
The Power fmovies. I am a big movie and TV fan, but rarely watch horrors. I'll be completely honest, I watched this movie and subscribed to Shudder for one reason only: Rose Williams. After watching Sanditon, I absolutely love her.
What I particularly love is how Rose can portray, with her eyes, expressions and body language everything her characters experience.
I'm probably not the best to review a movie of this genre, but will try to be honest, unbiased and not give away too many spoilers.
Overall the movie is good, and not to be missed. The genuinely scary bits are thankfully (for me) not too frequent and prolonged, but I did marvel at Rose and how they filmed these scenes.
The rest of the time, it's a creepy and rather unfriendly atmosphere that poor Val (Rose) a first day nurse has to contend with on her new job. There are power cuts occurring in Britain, so at night the hospital becomes a maze of dark corridors and secrets. We see occasional flashbacks to Val's childhood and perhaps clues to her obvious fear of the dark.
The interspersed creepy music and sound effects remind you periodically to not get too comfortable, as something is obviously lurking and something sinister is in store. The visuals are dark a lot of the time, but what do you expect in a horror type movie? I think the director and crew have overall done well on a limited budget.
What I like about this movie, is that once you get through the confusion/fear, this is ultimately a film about good conquering bad and personal vindication.
I enjoyed the lead role. Decent idea/concept but poorly executed. Slow and not at all spooky.
Well, this was scary. Or skummelt as I would say in Norwegian 😠Rose Williams does a splendid job, and so does everyone else, really. I like it when a horror movie does not insult my intelligence, and this one did not.
Working night shift in horror movies is a somewhat used and overused plot, but this time it works well. Hospitals are scary, as poor Rose will soon find out.
I wont spoil anything, just wanted to let you know that its a good movie. It would not have worked with a lesser actress, since some scenes are really demanding. But Rose is amazing.
