Extracted (2012)

There's no way for "Extracted" to avoid comparisons to "Inception". So let's just get it out of the way. There's plenty of similarities, no denying that. Is this a ripoff? No, it isn't.

While "Inception" had plenty of CGI and useless action scenes, this movie is more down to earth. Nothing too ambitious, as most of the scenes consist of...conversation. Just good old-fashioned dialogue and a simple story going from A to B. Also, we don't get "WAS IT ALL JUST A DREAM" - type of ambiguity just for the sake of ambiguity. There is one scene that some people might call a twist, but it fits, it's not forced and neither ruins or makes the movie.

The script is fine. I would've liked it to have squeezed more SciFi and drama into the story and perhaps it wasn't as challenging as I would've liked, but it works nonetheless. It's clever enough and focuses on what's important. Directing compliments the script and vice versa.

The main actors do a pretty good job.

This isn't a modern classic for me, but I liked it enough to recommend it for a rainy day. Unlike "Inception", though not being nearly as ambitious as a production, "Extracted" gave me a story where things that I can care about are at stake, and then it rewarded me with a satisfying ending (while not forcing any pretentious ambiguity down my throat). It did its job.

Fmovies: Well, guys you shouldn't be so sad about IMDb ratings. As you have already mentioned, this is a low budget movie lacking special effects and everything that makes a film popular. Being popular,everybody can understand it...Extracted is not for EVERYBODY! This indie masterpiece is visionary, very plausible, sort of Jules Verne anticipation... The so called pundits have tried to pick holes in the screenplay coat, but they simply ignore that dreams are made of memories. I am still a dreamer... I come from a country whose directors and actors have recently won international film awards like The Golden Bear so I know that the real value of any artistic endeavour is not dependent on money.

Very interesting concept. one of those movies where you have to sit and think about it afterwards with friends over a beer. I don't understand why a movie like this doesn't make the indie theaters. kept me on my feet the whole time. and the junkie character was fantastic! Dominic Bogart - never heard of you man- but great job.

Comparing it to inception seems inevitable but there is a clear distinction between both films (not just the budget). Extracted is much easier to relate to on a personal level, and does a much better job connecting to the characters. ohh and um... Waaaay better than inception.

looking forward to more movies from this director/writer...

Extracted fmovies. Amazing movie, didn't think it would be all that but it sounded interesting and it lived up and surpassed how good i thought it would be.

If you like sci-fi then you'll love this.

In my opinion is deserves a lot more then a 5.2 rating, but that's just me. Mainly because the film kept me interested threw out the whole movie.

Can't really fault anything apart from maybe it could of been ab little longer and the ending could of been a little better but other than that it was great.

I give it a 8.5/10

I will be mentioning this to some friends to go and watch this, an all around great movie.

This is a at least a 6 or 7/10. Before viewing, I thought all the user reviews down here were the writer under various guises trying to bump the film up! I thought what low budget trash is this! Pathetic! But - No. They are real people who are baffled at the current low (5/10) rating. I cannot say I blame them - IMDb ratings lately seem as about as honest as a 9 dollar note.

The insertion of the main character trapped in the foggy memories of the heroin user's mind for 4 years, trying to escape means the film runs through twists and turns in the plot aka the junkies mind and relationships and past horrific memories (robbing his own dad at gunpoint for example) is a reasonable plot - OK - It would have been far better if the junkie was much more of a dark character instead of a pathetic one - but the plot still moves along, and it's low budget doesn't hamper it.

Sure - it's nowhere near a 8 or 9, which I would say 'Limitless' is (in the same sort of apples to apples comparison - the same genre), or even another 'Inception' but certainly a decent watch.

IMDb got it wrong the film is great great character portrayal very believable strong story and all in all very enjoyable to watch right from the start the idea is captivating which in some cases if you take such a good idea , bad IMDb score= a b or c grade film bad camera work crap script and you start thinking oh great this is one of those eagle entertainment flicks. but this film is the complete opposite.I'm glad i took the time to see it,i passed on it a few times but when i had a read of the comments i thought hey they cant be all wrong which makes me wonder how many other films that I've passed on that are actually good because of IMDb giving it a rubbish score lesson learned i think
