The Tall Man (2012)

No one plays terrified like Jessica Biel she is at home giving the performance of her life when she is fighting for hers or someone elses. But there's so much more to her performance and character in this film. it's without a doubt the strongest performance of her career and one of the best of the year. I wish I could tell you what this film is really about so you can engulf yourself in the poetic brilliance of it, but I won't ruin it for you. Part of the films effectiveness comes from not knowing what to feel wherein lies the films thought provoking and urgently timeless message. The simplistic setup of the film is just this, children are being abducted from a very poor small town in Washington and the crimes are being committed by someone called "The Tall Man". When Julias' (Biel) child is taken she goes on a frantic chase to unravel the truth but as the twists and turns unfold the truth is more shocking and spellbinding than you can even imagine. Directed by Pascal Laughtier of the abysmal Martyrs. The Tall Man starts off as a brutal, powerhouse thriller after a brief setup the film quickly rushes into a nail biting chase film and it is completely thrilling. But as the film moves into it's brilliant second act you begin to question what and who you have become emotionally engaged too and than when the film finally blossoms open in it's final act it's hard to find the words to even describe the depth of thought that transpired through me. I don't wanna say anything but I will say this it's a courageous film that asks you to question who we are and what has become of the world we live in. As well as what is truly right and what is truly wrong. Most will be thrown off by the film but I'm pretty open with stuff like this especially when it's done so spectacularly. It's sure to offend some and leave others questioning what they just saw but in my opinion it was wrong to abandon this film to VOD release and a limited theatrical run it deserves to be seen and talked about. But at the same time I can see considering it's subject matter why it would have trouble getting a wide release it's speaks a very difficult language so hard for people to listen and understand. The direction is strong and the performances are remarkable besides Ms. biel in the lead Jodelle Ferland is finally given a meaty role and she does exceptionally with it as does the rest of the solid supporting cast. The film features gorgeous cinematography and one of the most surprising screenplays ever to come to film. THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR, ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE.

Fmovies: I don't understand the negative reviews (rating 1 or 2) - this movie got fine acting, pro production and a fine twist + a thought provoking idea/story. Best if you watch this one without reading too many reviews - I watched this one without knowing anything about the movie but Jessica Biel was involved and didn't see the end or resolution of the movie coming.

This is one of the best movies in its genre I have seen in a long time. It really leaves you astounded by the actual reality of what the movie is trying to convey. People are right, this is not a horror flick. It was put together brilliantly and keeps you wondering what is going on until the very end of the movie. I didn't think the ending was mushy but very poignant. What this movie showed leaves one wondering about society and what we have become. It is a very dark and melancholy type of movie that rises from the depths of despair and gives one hope for a better future. I would say more but it is essential this movie is watched without knowing the storyline completely. I wholeheartedly recommend watching this film. You will sit awhile and really think about it. It's about people and survival and not exactly about women and I personally did not find it offensive as someone suggested. Watch it and decide for yourself.

The Tall Man fmovies. This is simply an excellent movie. It portrays a good story that is cleverly presented. I would say it's one of those movies to ponder for some time, and that alone is enough reason to watch it. Obviously I have to say that the score here doesn't do it justice at all, but anyway, it seems that many people have lost the eye for a good story. The acting is great, perhaps the best asset of the film. Jessica Biel stands out with her performance, which is intense and totally committed. Her character is nicely built and the twists of the story will not let you down. This is not a classic horror flick, but it doesn't come short of thrills and cliffhanger moments. I particularly like a story that makes room for imagination, the type of films that don't give you everything on a silver plate, and this is one of those movies. I have watched a previous movie by Lugier, 'Martyrs', which I would recommend to people who are always in for extreme emotions, but most importantly, this director is not out to please, but to tell a good story and leave a mark on the viewers. 100% recommended.

Tall Man has come in for a fait of criticism from people expecting one thing and getting another. If you've seen (Director) Pascal Laugier's previous film 'Martyrs' then you may be a little more prepared for a film that deliberately leads you in one direction, only to almost switch genres midway through and go off in a totally different direction.

Tall Man is about a woman (Jessica Biel) whose child goes missing in a town where this sort of kidnapping is commonplace and put down to the legend of the 'Tall Man' - a shadowy figure who steals children. From there, she has to unravel the mystery behind the kidnappings.

Most people (including me) expected a straight horror film. What it turns out to be is more than that. Perhaps 'thriller' would describe it better. Everyone turns in a solid performance and, if you're in the mood for something a little different, with a few twists and turns, then you could do worse than this.

Just know that this isn't simply your average 'horror.'

This movie has a very interesting idea behind it. I have no clue to why it is only rated 5 on IMDb, but this should definitely be rated a 7 or higher. All I have to say is that this has an original story and it does portray a crude truth about the world we live in.

This is a rely good way to spend your evening if you want to watch something mind-blowing. The movie is not at all predictable, the acting is beyond perfect, it actually makes you think this is an X-Files movie where the next best thing is something you don't believe it would be possible.

I give it a 10 because this one will go into my favorite list.
