The Operative (2019)

Good Cast. But the whole film built up to a climax that never happened. Ultimately dissapointing.

Fmovies: Decent movie although slow-paced.

The credits rolled just before the climax of the plot.

This is the equivalent of a sentence fragment... you'll want your two hours back.

It's not a fun movie. It's a drama about a women which is used in order to help in a war. The dramatization is realistic: she is not perfect, she has feelings and needs of her own, she is human and a brave woman. The same goes for her operator too except that he's a man and in much less danger. On the the other hand, for agencies, in order succeed, the field agents are just pawns in a brutal war. For them it's about winning a war, no matter the cost. If the Mossad is in realty really so cold blooded, like you would more easily expect from the KGB for instance? Maybe they are and maybe not. Does it matter? I don't expect from a screen writer to answer that for me. I also liked the open end very much. As this is only fiction based on maybe real events, does it really matter if the screen writers doesn't give you any version of any ending? I think that his solution for the ending has a saying for itself. I think the movie did a good job on realistic live imagery. See it if you like realistic dramas.

The Operative fmovies. Diane Kruger is a very special beauty. And a very talented actress. A unique personality. This is her movie, she's on screen almost all the time. Martin Freeman is very natural and credible in the role of Thomas. Cas Anvar is just as good in the role of Farhad. But the film could have been much better, there are gaps in the script and in directing. Just 5 stars, all for Diane Kruger and the other actors.

This film was certainly not as bad as some of the other reviews indicated. While not taking everything so seriously, the movie absolutely kept my interest, and there were some truly tense moments throughout the film. Definitely not boring at all, and the acting was excellent.

I reluctantly watched this because of the negative reviews. I thought I would scrub thru it quickly as a 'normal' spy flick but once Diane Kruger starts acting I was hooked. She is amazing and her interactions with Martin Freeman ring totally true. Kruger plays Rachel as a novice to the area basically coming alive the more she is enmeshed in the history, the intrigue and the deceit. It is an unusual portrayal of Iranian people, their culture and their normal lives and it is contrasted with the paranoid obsessive deceit of Mossad. It is like Netflix The Spy but it moves slower and has the definite feel of a le Carré novel. Things blow up and people die but nothing is filler.
