Smolensk (2016)

What most reviewers and voters are missing - it is NOT documentary, so it simply can't be judged as one. You wouldn't expect "Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies" to be judged only basing on historical accuracy would you? Basically it is a movie that bends some facts to make those events more dramatic and movie itself more entertaining. It is listed as "Drama, Thriller, Inspired by true events" and it does a quite good job as that if you use some common sense.

Sure, Hollywood productions with 10-50 times bigger budgets give you more bang for those few bucks spent on tickets, but it is worth seeing anyway.

Music is decent, acting is fairly good most of the time, there is few bits that could use more post processing as it is fairly noticeable that those are green screen scenes.

Sure it has plenty of flaws, some (mainly script) are even critical ones - no one would plant multiple exploding devices on the plane when just one is enough, plus - there must be many other ways to destroy a plane without leaving any actual evidence. But again - it is a FICTION loosely based on actual events. It is not a work of investigative journalist but just entertainment.

All in all - worth seeing if that topic even remotely interest you.

Fmovies: I'm surprised that the PiS propaganda are capable of paying only 418 people in 3 years time to rate this movie a 10, I sincerely expected more. The film is comparable to current North Korean or 60's-70's Russia type propaganda, it is absolutely a worthless piece of cinematography and the money spent on this film should have gone to the families of the people who died in the Smolensk accident. I I would love to find out who the 418 people who rated this a 10 are but theres a very good chance its a couple or few people at most who got the job done. 1.4 rating 3 years after the premiere, well done folks, think of this comment next time you look in the mirror.

It is extremely difficult task to find even one positive thing about this movie. Because it is about terrible plane crash which actually took place in real world you can't even laugh of it.

I bet money that High School pupils could have make it far better with half the budget...

Acting is horrible and the actors are well known for beign politically involved. Movie as a hole is a part of bigger nation-wise brainwash. The story is Sci-Fi-like but the leader of main party said: "It show the truth". But really it does not.

Smolensk fmovies. Cheap propaganda movie. During its making the final scenes were changed only because of the change of the ruling party to PiS (Law and Order...), which is the main supporter of the conspiracy theory of an assault. And the movie was co-financed by the state. The authors say it is based on true story, but only the fact of the crash an dead of 96 people are true. Rest is fiction. And the explosion at the end is the main topic of the current ruling party propaganda.

The movie is about a conspiracy theory around the April 10, 2010 presidential plane crash that has spread like religion across Poland. There's nothing wrong with conspiracy theories as long as they are clearly marked as fiction, not mixed up with documentary footage, not spiced up with fiction (like mysterious deaths that never happened in real life) while the director claims the movie shows only facts, and not supported by the government as "the only valid truth about what really happened". Otherwise it turns into political propaganda.

If you want to know the facts about the crash (completely skipped in this movie!), you should watch the National Geographic "Mayday" TV show episode called "Death of the president" (S12 E10) that explains the efforts of the professional, Polish-Russian aviation accident investigation committees and is based on their experience and 2 detailed, thorough reports of the accident.

Propaganda aside, artistically this movie is terrible. Terrible cast (as good actors refused to take part in propaganda), terrible unprofessional acting, unfortunately including the main character who acts like a wooden stick with zero emotions, character development etc. Maybe with the exception of the president's wife who is a professional actress and her acting stands out. The plot is also all mixed up and inconsistent, seems like a lot of unrelated, irrelevant plots all mixed up.

The movie has been destroyed by critics, and so it's no surprise critics were not allowed at the premiere and the was no official screening for the press - the makers of the movie anticipated bad reviews and tried to avoid them for as long as they could.

I rarely comment on things, I admit. There are some exceptions to the rule though - usually when the things touch the intimate, personal part of myself. That happened with "Smolensk", which is absolutely the worst film production I have ever seen. It starts with the script, school play level dialogues, amateurish acting and sick political propaganda flooding the entire screen. There is nothing (N-O-T-H-I-N-G) worth watching in "Smolensk". More accurate, better and more entertaining information on this tragic crash you can get on Wikipedia or Discovery Channel, if you seek for some facts unspoiled by conspiracy theories. Unless you do like to hurt your eyes or challenge your IQ, you'd rather want to skip on this one. You have been warned...
