Finally saw Jilla. Tailor made for South audiences. Neat masala film, that utilizes the "family" factor very well. Best part is, Vijay looks like some collegian and dances, emotes, romances, fights, and wat not, as if he was 20 yrs old ! Story is the regular fight in families, but the difference lies in pitching an illegal father with a legal son, in the most saleable format . And Kajal was cute. Wish she had more screen presence. But I certainly don't mind the back-lashing chemistry. CHUCKLEÂ…Songs and fights, although regular were foot-tapping. And i frankly enjoyed the quietened mother sentiment. I would say, Formula film with all formulae breaking on its own terms.
Fmovies: Pleasantly surprised to see a heroine in tamil cinema , having a mind of her own ! amidst all the "loosu" heroines or "thimir" pidicha heroines, Kajal was presented with spunk, spirit, a healthy posterior and some passion. Jilla should have had more fighting between vijay and kajal. Am bored of the timid ones ! Kajal had a voice, and she questions her man upfront, although her scenes were very limited. If more scenes had been given to the women, the chemistry scale would have been higher. However, although her role gets confined to the love interest area, its nice to see a pleasant sari clad lady in both melodies. i loved all that she wore in verasa and kandangi. Pray, why doesn't tamizh cinema increase the scope for its dazzling heroines ?
Would I see another Tamil film starring Lal Saab and Vijay again. I would rather see Jilla again. A film has to be racy, roaring and exciting. After so much of art and kitsch, I was stunned to see a colorful Jilla with an arresting Mohanlal and a dashing Vijay. Vijay is genuinely charming. His heroine Kajal has a great attitude, a lesser screen presence and The song locales are exotic.
Jilla works primarily because it has a nice twist towards the end. I like it when there's a suspense. When there's a quiet story lurking behind the scenes and I like it, that I could take my family out for a Pongal holiday without squirming in the seat. Colorful Film
Jilla fmovies. Vijay hates Police. But later becomes same police to beat his enemies. Nice Line. But its not that simple. Mohanlal has flashback too. Combining both stories is Jilla story ! Father-son relationship is story. Best part is, Vijay is Mohanlal's adopted son and that's very nice. Vijay always listens to Mohanlal but later when Mohanlal tries to make him do illegal activities, he is not willing to do it. Father-son fight is the interval portion and this is a very very good scene. Then how Vijay beats other enemies forms the rest of the story
I liked the comedy. Vijays comedy sense is nice. "Parotta" Suri is very good partner for Vijay. Kajal looks good. Foreign locales are also good. Fighting also super. Mass Film for fans and families. But I wonder when Vijay "Anna" will leave out "Thangachi" sentiment !
Jilla is .....Clever !
On the exterior, it appears a typical mass masala, yet on the interior, it talks Subtle emotions. Somewhere, It stacks drama with heavy aplomb, YET introduces a simple tear in the midst of no-where to quietly nudge.
Jilla is tailor-made for South Indian Audiences who look upon the Hero as God. Yet this filmmaker Subtly steers in a rogue protagonist and changes him so swiftly and quietly that you smile !
Vijay is back from his previous disaster, and hits pay-dirt with Jilla, in the company of a charismatic legend called Mohanlal ! Its mayhem at the theaters, when the two confront each other. Background Score by D.Imman, adds that necessary spunk and Cinematography by Ganesh Rajavelu is Stylish
People, Polarities, Moods, Emotions match Mass, Songs, Dances, Fights. And THIS balancing element is what makes clever filmmaking. And Dir Neason hits top-gear, translating into box-office collections
As a self-confessed Vijay fan, It was Jilla Pongal all the way for me. And it didn't disappoint. Vijay Anna does everything effortlessly. Hes very casual and relaxed in this film and has surprisingly sung a melody too. Going crazy over "kandangi" wasn't new, because it was already a hit . But seeing the duet was cute. There's something mellifluous about the flute and it hit all the rite notes. Kajal was merry and makes a good pair for Anna. Although I didn't like her in the police uniform. But her comic scenes with Anna and Suri are superb.
The back slapping is very cheeky and naughty and no, I certainly didn't fidget,in my seat. Choreography was interesting, fights were electric and that gas cylinder blast was a real explosion. I was not fascinated by their graphics although. Neat story and Mohanlal and Anna carry it effortlessly with time-tested histrionics. 10 stars for the director for giving an Easy and Eclectic Pongal Treat
