Fullmetal Alchemist (2017)

Honestly it makes me laugh how salty some of the FMA fans are. After reading reviews I had very low expectations (like live action Death Note or Dragonball Evolution low). And it VASTLY exceeded my expectations. First - the bad: -Occasional jank CGI - this is to be expected in a Japanese movie. And honestly it was actually GOOD in some parts. But just mediocre in some others, and a little hokey in a few places. But even in its mediocrity, it tried to encompass the look of the anime. -Missing the full cast. Part of this was it ended unfinished on purpose. It left room for part 2. MINOR SPOILER: Luis Armstrong, Bradley, Father, etc. Were not even in this movie because they never got that far into the plot. This is fine. It is actually a good point because they didn't try to rush it all in.

The Good: -Everything LOOKED on point. The characters looked like the anime characters. The locations looked good too. -The characters. What? I thought they were bad? No. They encompassed the original anime characters fantastically. I felt genuine emotion from the hughes and nina scenes that I hadn't felt in years since watching the anime the first time. They did these scenes very well within the limited ~2 hour runtime they had. -The story. Again - for an anime adaptation with a limited 2 hour runtime, they encompassed the critical parts of the story, and in my opinion, WITHOUT compromising like most movies do. The movie really felt like watching FMA. They didn't rush through to the end of it, they stopped where they thought a good stopping point would be. And it actually felt right. I don't know what fans were expecting - they would have hated it if they would have rushed it through completely.

Overall, I was very pleased with the movie, and would even watch it again or recommend it to my friends who are FMA fans. This movie is close to the best-possible realistic scenario for a FMA anime adaptation.

Fmovies: This movie is a visual experience of different styles.The power of this movie is definitely in its visual style and overall style of directing. The movie uses different themes throughout the movie but yet the movie manages to create one big unique identity. The movie never feels incoherent or disjointed in its style or storytelling, though it all widely differs from each other at times.

Fullmetal Alchemist fmovies. It's gonna be difficult to fit the long and complicated story line to fit around 2 hours. They've all done their best and you can't deny all of the actors and actresses are so similar to the characters and they really did well in bringing those characters to live action. Of course, it's gonna be difficult for fans who have been so familiar with the manga and anime for many years to cope with no element of surprise that may be you feel it's lacking. I know the story line by hard too so there was not much surprises in the movie but seriously, I'm surely satisfied with the casts and cgi and really enjoy the fantasy became reality and no doubt have to give 8 stars.

I had nothing to base it on - so for me, compared to Hollywood movies where the ideas seem predictable this seemed new and fresh.

I guess if you're familiar with the anime (which I only found out about coming to IMDB) then maybe the good ideas are all straight copies of that. But I dont think that matters to the majority who will not be familiar with it.

When I first started watching it - I couldn't and still cant place exactly where this is supposed to be set. I felt some theft of Harry Potter in the scenes of steam trains chugging through what looks like the English country side, there was even a British phone box at one point. All the lettering of place names were in English but the film was subtitled. So I went from expecting some weird knock off of Harry Potter and his spell casting but then found the premise of the story much more interesting.

Sometimes you want to shout at the screen - when there's impossibly long periods where heroes are confronted by an enemy and stand around not doing anything for what seems like hours. But I think that probably plays into the anime style.

So not my favourite movie ever - but definitely watchable, modern, good effects, nice interesting story line.

I can recommend this movie wholeheartedly having watched the animated version. It stays true to cannon. The dubs are very good also. I can't wait for FMA 2!
